In this book discussion, we’ll explore Necessary Endings by Dr. Henry Cloud and its powerful relevance to the interpreting profession. We will focus on recognizing when to let go of unsustainable assignments, unhealthy work environments, or outdated career habits that hinder success. Through independent reading, interactive discussions, and real-world applications, we will gain insights into setting boundaries, avoiding burnout, and making intentional choices for a thriving interpreting career.

By the end of this book discussion, we will be able to...

  • Identify the key principles of Necessary Endings by Dr. Henry Cloud.

  • Evaluate the key principles relevant to ethical decision-making, boundary-setting, and career growth in the ASL-English interpreting profession.

  • Apply Cloud’s framework for recognizing necessary endings to real-world interpreting experiences, such as managing professional relationships, addressing burnout, and making career transitions.

  • Create an individualized action plan to implement healthy endings in our interpreting practice, ensuring long-term professional sustainability and ethical integrity.
